The TeleSonic NexTalk-VM software application by NXi Communications, Inc., enables a standard computer modem to connect to any TTY device.  With this new software, it's no longer necessary to have a dedicated TTY for deaf communication and a personal computer modem to access the Internet or your e-mail. Now your compatible modem can both emulate the specialized protocol required by TTY devices, and be used for those high speed connections to the Internet or dial-up services.

Thanks to NexTalk-VM, most personal computers - - including notebooks and other portables - - can become a TTY device.  Anywhere a phone line is available, users can make a TTY call, send or receive e-mail, and use the Internet, all from the same computer and modem.

The ability for a standard computer modem to "talk" to a TTY device was impossible before NexTalk-VM.   While TTYs and modems rely on telephone lines to carry their signals, they use completely different - - and incompatible - - methods to conduct communications sessions.   NexTalk-VM overcomes the barriers by creating a digital bridge which links the two and allows them to communicate.

In addition to connecting to TTY devices, the NexTalk-VM software provides enhanced functionality for TTY callers.   The software includes an answering machine, a fully customizable phonebook, and the ability to tailor the software to suit individual preferences. The wide variety of features that are included with the software enhance your ability to communicate with ease:

• Use a standard computer modem for TTY communication.  Compatible modems include internal, external and PCMCIA (PC Card) types.

• The built-in answering machine will automatically capture and save your messages.

• Customizable phone books with unlimited entries help manage calls, including calls to relay services.

• Messages left on your answering machine can be automatically sent to you, no matter where you are, with alpha pager support.

• Split screens show each party's portion of the text conversation in a distinctive color.

• Visual alerts and icons show incoming calls, call progress, messages waiting and connect time/speed.

• Save your conversations and messages for later review.
