The TeleSonic TTY InfoCenter allows people who are deaf to use their computers or TTY machines (commonly used by deaf people for telephone communication) to "read", rather than listen to, the menu choices of automated telephone information services.

The TTY InfoCenter is a complete hardware/software solution designed to help corporations, institutions, and government organizations increase market reach and customer service, and comply with Federal regulations.  It doesn't replace traditional telephone automated information services, but can replicate them to be consistent with already existing voice applications.

A final ruling effective as of March 5, 1998 describes interactive telephone systems that require hearing as a condition to make menu choices as "inacessible."

Requiring a person who is deaf to use telephone relay operators to access these systems can't be counted on either.   Typically, the "voice" systems disconnect relay operators before they have time to translate the menu choices back to the caller.

More About the TTY InfoCenter

It works just like an automated audio telephone information system:

The multi-line TTY InfoCenter can be accessed from TTY equipment and from computer modems.  A single phone number can service both TTY and computer modem calls - - the system automatically detects on each line what type of device is calling and adjusts automatically to the right communication mode.  Moreover,  messages can be customized for each type of call.

A user-friendly interface means the TTY InfoCenter System Administrator does not need to have any special knowledge about TTY equipment nor an understanding of communication syles in the deaf culture.
